Truett Cathy has experienced poverty and plenty. Though the founder of Chick-fil-A, Inc., prefers times of plenty, he hopes never to forget the lessons he learned growing up poor. No overnight success story, Cathy worked with his wife, Jeannette, for 21 years behind the counter of their single mom-and-pop restaurant before he opened the first Chick-fil-A restaurant at the age of 46. His latest book, Wealth: Is It Worth It? explores the opportunities and responsibilities that accompany success.

About the Author

S. Truett Cathy is a real-life Horatio Alger story. Growing up in a boardinghouse his mother operated during the Great Depression, he learned the principles of hard work, honesty, loyalty, and respect. When he opened a small restaurant in 1946 with his brother Ben, he put those principles to work and immediately began to experience rewards. Over two decades later, Cathy opened his first Chick-fil-A restaurant, which was unique in America in two ways: it served the first boneless breast chicken sandwich, and it was the first fast-food restaurant to operate in a shopping mall. Today, the more than 1,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants boast than $3 billion in sales annually while adhering to a policy previously unknown in the fast-food business: Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays. Along with his wife, Jeanette, Cathy is also the founder of the WinShape Centre Foundation, which offers college scholarships, summer camps for children, a marriage retreat center, and homes for more than 130 foster children. The Cathys live in the Atlanta area. Dr. Ken Blanchard is a highly respected business leadership consultant and best-selling author. His book The One-Minute Manager (with Spencer Johnson) has sold more than nine million copies worldwide, and Raving Fans and Gung Ho! (both with Sheldon Bowles) are also best sellers, along with other books in The One-Minute Manager Library. Ken is the chief spiritual officer of The Ken Blanchard Companies, a group of management training and consulting businesses that he and his wife, Dr. Marjorie Blanchard, founded in 1979. He is also a visiting lecturer at his alma mater, Cornell University, where he received his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees.Dave Ramsey is America's trusted voice on money and business. To say that this book is full of great insight is putting it mildly. The wisdom and practical advice given by this author, Mr Cathy, who has lived several decades is phenomenal. There are lots of little pearls that will transform the lives of those who choose to apply them. I appreciate hearing from someone who has endeavored not only to provide jobs for his people but also to change their lives in some way as a result of their association with his organization. I particularly enjoyed reading his opinion on the use of debt and his relationships with his family and friends. This book is a very good read. Well worth the money.Wealth: Is It Worth It?

An easy and worthwhile read with great quotes from some of my favorite people in the world (Warren Buffet, Dave Ramsey). I think if you are to give this book a bad rating you either have to be predetermined to blindly disagree with anyone who is "Christian" no matter what or you are so much in love with your own material wealth that you can't see straight.

My favorite quote from the Buffet interview:
"Wealth is having enough. That means to some people, no matter how much they have, they can't really be wealthy because they want more than they've got"

Interesting to hear about Mr Cathy's humble beginnings. This book also contains practical advice on how to view and handle money or the lack of money.

This little book is an easy read, I read it in about an hour and a half. It is definitely inspiring, and though the bulk it is actually not about Chick-fil-A, the stories from S. Truett Cathy make you want to "eat mor chick'n" just to support what this wonderful, humble man created! (thus, the title of my review since they're closed on Sunday) Lots of good quotes that make you think. Would definitely recommend for some inspirational reading.

I really appreciated how Truett has handled his wealth. The book can be summed up by this one quote "wealth, is it worth it? Yes, if you give it away generously"

In this book you learn from a principle centered man who did not allow his wealth and success to ruin his character or his family. Great read for anyone looking to do the same. I'll also note that many Christians feel that abundant wealth is bad, if this is you I would highly recommend this book for you as it may also help you relate to wealth in a different way.
